Jake Daniels Thursday’s Broadcast 4-17-14

5:05PM  Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stonesour has added his talents to a project called “Teenage Time Killer”.   Other artists who appear on it include Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, Randy from Lamb of God, Mike and Reed from C.O.C., Jello Biafra and others. The album is described as “old punk and punk and metal”.  The album yet to be released was recorded at Grohls studios. No surprise there.  Everyone wants to play on that old Sound City board…

4:30PM  Take out the Gungan!   I hate Jar Jar Binks!  He was not only an annoying character in the Star Wars movies but remember he gave Palpatine emergency powers?  The new Chevelle is quality rock my friends…

4:05PM  Volbeat kills it live I promise you!  There’s a “Tour Edition” of the latest cd out in stores.  What makes this any different?  A one hour performance DVD.  New bands just taking off employ this strategy to capture new fans that just saw them in concert.  Those tours last from one to two years.  Here’s an example of how this works: You heard the songs a time or two on the radio not thinking much about them.  Then you go to a festival and see them live in concert and are blown away.  Having still never purchased the cd.  The next time you are at Best Buy you find the “tour edition” on the shelf then lo and behold who remembers how great they were live?  You!  And what do you do?  You buy it!  See how that works?

3:50PM  We all know and love the Pantera version of Planet Caravan but today we played the original version of it for Turntable Thursday!

3:30PM  One album gets the resurrected treatment and two new ones are coming for Billy Corgan and his bald head.  Smashing Pumpkins “Adore” will be reissued this summer.  Usually that means remastered which means it sounds a lot better.  Most times bands will put songs recorded during the recording of the albums on reissued projects.  Original artwork if it’s really old.  Liner notes etc.  Fans will definitely be excited as this Punkins fan is!
