FILE UNDER ALS BUCKET CHALLENGE:

Ronnie Wood made some good use of The Rolling Stones‘ down time between tour legs to raise some money for a worthy cause by becoming one of the latest famous rockers to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

In a video posted Sunday on his wife Sally Humphreys‘ official YouTube page, the guitarist is seen getting doused with a bucket of icy water.  As he’s about to take the challenge, Wood thanks Australian choreographer Chucky Klapow for nominating him, and then says, “Donate your money.”  After he gets soaked, Ronnie declares, “I love it,” then in a hoarse voice, he goes on to nominate Rod Stewart, actor Woody Harrelson and his own son Tyrone Wood to participate in the campaign.

In addition, Wood is seen splashing ice water over his wife, Sally, who took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge the same day.  Humphreys, who also was nominated by Klapow, in turn, nominated retired tennis legend Boris Becker, rugby star Christian Wade and one other person.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge calls for nominated participants to pour ice water over their heads within 24 hours or donate $100 to help find a cure for ALS, the progressive degenerative nerve disease commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  As of Monday, more than $79 million has been raised by this year’s campaign.

The Rolling Stones return to the road on October 25 when they begin an Australian tour leg in the city of Adelaide.

FILE UNDER SIGNATURE GUITARS:

Gone are the days of Billie Joe Armstrong wailing away on a banged up, sticker-lashed guitar. The Green Day frontman has just been issued a new signature model from Gibson, and it’s a beauty. The red hollow-body is made of red poplar and has lots of doodads found on the high-end guitars of the world — which it certainly is, as it’ll run your punk-rockin’ self more than $3K to own.

You can buy one of Armstrong’s limited-run guitars on the Gibson website… or, if you’re the lucky winner of an online contest, you can have one for free, with a Billie Joe signature on it besides. Details are on the website of music retailer zZounds.com, where you can enter until midnight on September 12.

Gibson also produces a Billie Joe Armstrong signature Les Paul Junior.
