In an interview with Variety ahead of Green Day‘s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on Thursday (May 1), frontman Billie Joe Armstrong admits that he still has hopes for an eventual release of the film adaptation of the American Idiot musical. The project was originally planned back in 2016 in a partnership with HBO, with Armstrong set to play the role of St. Jimmy, but nothing ever materialized. “There was supposed to be [a film], but it never panned out,” Armstrong said. “I’m sure something is gonna happen. The musical did so well and they’ve done it in Australia, Italy, Germany, England … It’s traveled so well. Eventually it’s going to happen, I would think.” In the meantime, Green Day’s music will be featured in the upcoming comedy film New Years Rev, which is based on the California punk band’s early days. The group is producing the project, and will also make guest appearances in the movie, alongside Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, and Sean Gunn. (Variety)
